So as most of you already know Kayson has been having Dizzy spells for about two years now....we have been doing all we can to try to figure this thing out..as of now he has had two "really bad" dizzy spells that lasted about six hours each! these consisted of being sick to his stomach, dizziness, throwing up and feeling like he just got off a merry-go-round and can not open his eyes! well he had been to doctors, had a MRI and all that jazz..and had been told "blanket theories of what he had" some said it was neurological others said vertigo, and others Menieres Disease! well we finally found a specialist on this kind of stuff he tested Kays hearing and diagnosed him with Minieres Disease...now don't freak,..it sounds nasty with that disease word in there but it really isn't that bad! Ménière's disease is a disorder of the inner ear that can affect hearing and balance,It is caused by an increase in volume and pressure of the endolymph of the inner ear, It is unknown how you get this some say by damaging your ear, excess sweating in sports,or genes? no one knows! For some reason Kayson's body has excess fluid in his right ear, this extra water attracts salt/sodium to his ear and expands his ear ways, causing pressure on his endolymph and labyrinth causing dizziness, ear humming and such. Now this is really easy to prevent, just like high blood pressure he has to take a water pill/diuretic to prevent his body from absorbing so much sodium, also it helps patients to manage his sodium intake to 2000mg a day, don't drink soda, and not to eat too many processed or canned foods! Now when we first figured out he had this we thought ok we can do this the doctor says about 55% of minieres patients can reverse this by having a below 2000mg's of sodium in their diet for a few years and it disappears he warned us that sodium is a hard thing to manage because it is in EVERYTHING from Water to healthy foods! most people only think of salty foods as fries or chips well everything has salt in it and alot of it! eating out is almost impossible to stay under 2000mg restaurants pump their food with salt for flavor...it almost would make you sick if you knew how much your were eating! we left the doctor's office feeling great like we can do this! well we get home and start looking at labels our favorite foods.. tomato noodles 1,400 mg of sodium! ahhhh that's one box! and the list went on and on of our favorites that were over 1,000 mg! we had a six inch subway 1,234mg,a salad with ham 1,000 mg! the doctor warned us that we would have to become sodium experts,so as of now he is just taking his pill every other day and watching what he eats as for keeping it under 2,000mg ahhhh ....we will try! wish us luck! or kayson will just be eating fruit and veggies...haha! our new name for this..."My nEARS-HURT!"
