I am still always surprised when talking with my fellow Mommy's, and i hear "Making your own food is actually more expensive, between the time and the cost of veggies and such these days" and "The food is actually better for them when you buy it because they process them to keep vitamins in better" WHAT!! i am always so shocked and all though i would love to ramble off all the things i have researched and found out, i don't. Lets be honest buying you baby food is much easier SOMETIMES.The days your out and about and don't have a fridge or microwave and store bought food you can just keep un- refrigerated in your diaper bag just in case (i do this), But really once you have done it once i really find it much more convenient and easy to make it.There are so many awesome websites out there that offer advice, recipes, videos and more. Anyways i won't go on any more just wanted to show you all this chart i found from one of my favorite websites http://wholesomebabyfood.momtastic.com//, this is what they had to say about it. ** The cost chart is in the process of being updated to reflect prices for January 2012 **
"Remember that the cost savings is just an additional benefit; beginning good healthy eating habits early and knowing exactly what is going into your baby's tummy is really priceless. The cost benefits are just another bonus of making your own homemade baby foods that add to the nutritional benefits. This is specifically true as baby moves to "Stage 2-3, or Toddler Meals" commercial foods. Stage 1 foods, and Stage 2 single ingredient foods, seldom have fillers however the advanced mixes and dinners/meals baby foods may contain starchy fillers and other ingredients that are not of any nutritional value, and may loose soem nutritional value in the process of jaring. The food that you make at home from fresh, whole vegetables and fruits is nutritionally superior to any jarred commercial variety on your grocer’s shelf. The cereals you can quickly and easily make at home from brown rice (and other whole grains) cannot be compared to the processed, refined white rice commercial baby cereals, fruits and veggies from a jar and all the other goodies you feed your baby. Anyways i thought this was awesome to actually show you that you are saving anywhere from 23-26 cents EACH ounce!!! Most servings i make (buy my veggies and such on sale) is around 2-3 cents each ounce!! If you are interested here are some more tips. I know making your food doesn't work for all Mom's and it may not work when i have a few more kiddos running around, but it's good to know that you can at least sometimes when you have time make some yummy super nutritious food for your babe, and save your pennies...for some shoes maybe?!
