"Nesting Madness.."

So at about 22 Weeks into this pregnancy i went NUTS! all of the sudden i reached the "Halfway to baby point" and i was like freaking out! I felt like i had so much i wanted to do before the holidays and cold weather came! so in end of October-November i just went crazy! i had literally a "Before Baby to-do" list that was three pages long! Kay just laughed at me and ensured me it "Didn't all need to be done" but you know how that nesting goes..and with my personalty i was determined! It all started because i knew Easton would need s "Big boy room" soon, and when i was pregnant with Easton we didn't really do anything too too special to the nursery (and still haven't) so i wanted his new and exciting big boy room to be great! Also we wanted to have all his stuff in it and him at least napping in his big bed before the new babe came for maybe a tad easier of a transition? Either was i was a mad person planning, shopping, bargaining, KSL add watching, garage sailing, and Pretty much doing anything i could to get a new room without the big new price tag! so here are the befores...
EASTON BIG BOY ROOM BEFORE...

These dressers were mine growing up..yep that old. Cream, gold and laminate! awesome the hardest thing to paint over. But i saw the potential...
Now the only other thing i am going to say is redecorating anything while pregnant is not a good idea, i COULD NOT make up my mind on anything! so thanks to my AMAZING friend Staci and her "Ooozing designing talent" i visited her house got inspired and she pretty much held my hand through it! She refurnishes furniture on the side..so she knows whats up!
I realized from Staci after googling how to re-finish laminate and only finding people saying how hard it is to strip was i surprised when Staci said "No stripping, just sand a tad and paint over it" Amazing! it worked!! i decided on a lighter color (white) and med grey because i am at that moment in my house decorating that i am just over everything and i wasn't to start from scratch (too bad i can't just hire someone or switch it every few months right..) so i guess room by room. I wanted to "lighten up my house, i have lots of blacks, browns, greens earth tones which i love by like i said before..getting over it! Also i was trying to stay as cheap as possible so although a tad feminine i kept the old hardware on it and just spray painted it black! TOTAL refinishing of these 4 dressers about $35!!! oh yeah...
Now don't let me fool you it took A TON of time. because it was laminate i did three coats! and lots of sanding, which was not bad at all with an electric sander. This was my living quarters for like 3 weeks straight, night and nap times...i was here!
Next was book shelf's, i had seen tons online that i loved, some made from spice racks, some plastic gutters and i just couldn't decide what to do but knew i wanted some! i came across a blog that had these beauties on there and how to make them for cheap. Well i Had been looking at the spice racks from Ikea that are $3 each that you just paint white and thought well that's as cheap as it gets..right? NO WRONG. got these dimensions off the blog and went over to Lowe's and asked them to look at their cull (or scrap)pile of wood. These piles are wrongly cut, or have blemishes on them. Perfect there was EXACTLY what i needed, and usually the charge to cut them but bonus three were already the length i needed and the others the guy was nice enough to cut for me for free. So Cull pile shopping TOTAL for 2 books shelf's for Boys rooms $.74 cents each!!!!! with paint probably $1.00? or less! YES you read right the scrap piles are .10 to 1.00! Just had my trust hubs nail them in place, i could have it's super easy and painted them and WAHLA... kinda wish i would have made more!
Frog table $2.00 garage sale find grey seat..FREE from aunt
This Beautiful table was got at a garage sale..actually two of them see other in nursery below, they were cream i painted them white and sprayed the nob black (this one was not painted yet i guess b4 pic dang just noticed that, see bottom pic for after) GARAGE SALE $5 for both!!!
This table..eww My Grandma got this for me at a garage sale for FREE before Easton was born it was in bad horrible shape. Warped, water soaked, bubbled, dusty, smelly, had no drawer, and was kinda gross all together. I put it in his room thinking there is no way this is worth refinishing, there it sat and sat and sat until one day i finally moved it into the garage when i got the night stand above! then i felt bad my grandma had gotten it for me and it was in the cold garage getting used as a spider house..so i whipped it out cleaned it, sanded it, painted it. Had Kay cut a piece of plywood the size of the hole and squeeze it in (not a working drawer) but hey looks good right?! got a new piece of hardware at Walmart for .25 TOTAL with paint maybe $3.25?!

Now the bed. This bed was Kayson's growing up! yes Kayson who is 6' 5' slept in a tiny little full bed until he was 21 years old! (he had to sleep in a U shape to fit!) HA HA poor kid. I loved this bed and it is solid beautiful oak with pretty knots and all. I love it just hated the outdated color, so i thought i would stain it! keep the knots and the character a little. OK I'm going to prefis by saying this was the one project that kicked my butt, i had no experience in staining and neither did ANYONE i talked to at any of those big "supposed to know evetryhitng to help you stores" no they were idiots. so i had goggled it and i thought i had figured out what i was going to do. I was going to use gel paint and only do one layer (gel is less stinky and only needs one coat, plus is more see through, which i wanted) then when i went to buy it the guy told me you have to seal it, well the sealing stuff was expensive and then it only made sense just to use normal stain..ugh i get a head ache just thinking about all this again. So went with normal Norwax stain with primer in with it so no need for several coats then priming. well the first oat was gorgeous perfect colors yet knots showing through, well the can said to do "a minimum of two coats" so again my own feeling i did a second coat and thats where things got hairy! not to mention that pregger girl over here should not have been even doing this with the fumes ( Don't worry i wore a gas mask and ventilated garage door) but it was just stinky this second coat, and it ended up covering up more than i wanted and made my rich yet see through first coat look more like i just painted it brown. I don't hate it but and not "in love with it" second part of the story...it had a built in primer that's why i got this one so you didn't have to use those harsh chemicals and let it dry for days, well one week in the garage and it STILL wreaked in there! yet it was dry it was killing me. I am the type of person when i am done with something i wasn't it put away and done so this sitting my garage for weeks was killing me. Ended up being THREE weeks in the garage..still smelly but now it had snowed so we wanted our cars in the garage. Moved it up stairs and i am no lying to you hand on my heart THE ROOM STILL STINKS!! i have googled and tried everyhitng and i am super bummed because i don't dare let East sleep in there yet. Its fine until  you close the door then it stinks up. It has now been over three months and MAYBE just not gone..CRAZY! so that's my staining story! ha ha

Easton made some art for his room with an old canvas we found at DI for .10 cents. He loved it!

Got this old mirror from DI for i think .75 cents i wish i would have taken a before picture of it, pink glittery and yeah but had cute potential. so i painted it Avocado green got a $5 bottle of chalk board spray paint from walmart and sprayed the mirror with it. Whala....a cute chalk board for the little man to doodle on! and it used hardly any of the spray paint so i have the can for other projects too!
Kay's State basketball from school! all my prints i just find online, not sure if this is totally legal..ha ha but i just punch into google what kind of picture i want and press "images" and then save them to my computer and print them at Costco for like $1.00..it's the best! Had these old frames my Mom had laying around from her old job! and used an old piece of white molding..added a back and a top ledge with wood scraps my parents had and ..FREE cute white shelf!
Ok this beauty of a shelf..my Dad made in 7th grade shop!! are you dying yet?! i still am..so cute right, i knew i had to have it in East room when i saw it covered in dust in my parents storage room. plus Great grandpas lucky ceramic cowboy hat, fishing pic Kay chose out, and and old ugly square saying board i painted the same green and chalk board (that cousin Sloan left a cute message for Easton on)

This storage bin thing was on sale after Thanksgiving at Target for $15 Normally $45 shut up you say, yes it gets better... had a coupon made it $8!!! funny because i had almost gotten one of these SO many times at smiths and i just kept telling myself. no wait just wait. well goo thing i did! only down side the drawers inside were on sale but still were $3 each, kinda expensive. Green one doesn't go there just noticed that..ha ha
Ok so...This room and the nursery i wasn't to paint but have not yet...ask me why?
